:) )īe very anal and paranoid about it happening again. If you're adventurous, you can use Resmon to identify processes that are in a wait chain on other processes. :)ĭisable any process on the host that might be doing something to the disks, say shadow copies. This is essential if, say, you misconfigured your shadow copies during backup and the VM is important. If you can't open a regular RDP session from the host or elsewhere, this is most certainly the problem. A normally running VM will report that it is connected to the network and its IP address will be the one assigned or configured for it, whether DHCP, reserved or static.Ī VM that is stalled will report a blank address (no address). The underlying VM console architecture is very network dependent, so guess what's the first to not work?Ī sign that this may be happening: In the main Hyper-V console, select the affected VM, then go to the bottom pane and select the Networking tab. If the host is doing anything with shadow copies, whether intentional or accidental, on the disk where the VHD is stored, it can cause the VM to run very slowly, presenting the set of symptoms you describe. The solution there is to turn off all the offloading features.
VMWARE FUSION BLACK SCREEN WINDOWS 8 DRIVERS
Some NIC drivers (Broada**, er, Broadcom) will screw up VMs good. Network and disks are the enemies of virtualization. Two things can cause a VM to stall: network and disk. None of us are really Hyper-V experts, so we are not really sure where to go from here. We tried to start it in safe mode, same story. We see the windows startup screen in the open Hyper-V window, but then it goes back to the empty black screen. We tried turning the VM off from the Hyper-V Manager, and then turning it back on.

VMWARE FUSION BLACK SCREEN WINDOWS 8 SOFTWARE
We have some software that runs on that VM (the big one is Quickbooks) and that software can still be accessed and runs fine. When we try to look at it from the Hyper-V Manager (we are using Hyper-V), we get a black screen. We can ping it, even browse the shared folders on it, but we cannot get on to it. We checked it from a desktop, and were unable to remote into the VM. The fourth, on the other hand, was just displaying a black screen. When we started the VMs after the reboot, three of them started without a problem. There are 4 VMs running on this box, and they have all been running fine for months. When the host box came back up after the reboot, we went in and started the VMs. So here is the situation, we were doing some normal updates to the host box (windows updates), and needed to reboot. We have a VM that will not show anything but a black screen.
